Pressure transducer method for measuring gas production by microorganisms.
A simple method for measuring gas production by microorganisms by using a pressure transducer to sense pressure buildup was developed and tested with members of the coliform group. The test system consisted of a 5.0 lb/in(2) pressure transducer and a pressure equalizer valve attached to the metal cap of a test tube (20 by 150 mm); gas pressure was recorded on a strip-chart recorder. Gas pressur...
متن کاملSimple and Sensitive Method for Demonstrating Mercaptan Production by Microorganisms.
There is very little information in the literature concerning the production of mercaptans by microorganisms. Mercaptan production has been reported for anaerobes (Rettger, J. Biol. Chem. 2:71, 1906), fungi [Challenger, Sci. Progr. (London) 35:396, 1947], Escherichia coli (Fromageot and Moubacher, Enzymologia 2:121, 1937), and Proteus vulgaris (Masatashi, Biochem. Z. 136:198, 1923). However, Ma...
متن کاملMethod for Measuring Production Complexity
Many companies today struggle with fierce demands on efficiency, flexibility and sustainability connected to customization and the introduction of new sustainable products. This increases production complexity, which should be managed through a holistic approach in order to avoid sub-optimization, focus usage and support relevant changes in the production set-up. This paper presents a first ste...
متن کاملA Particle Pressure Transducer Suitable for Use in Gas-fluidized Beds a Particle Pressure Transducer Suitable for Use in Gas-f Luidized
This paper describes a device that can resolve the average pressure exerted on a solid wall due to interactions with particles independently of the pressure exerted by fluid forces. The device has been used to measure the average particle pressures exerted on the walls of a gas-fluidized bed.
متن کاملEthylene production by soil microorganisms.
Ethylene-producing strains of Penicillium cyclopium and P. crustosum were isolated from soil. These isolates produced ethylene on a variety of carbon growth substrates including phenolic acids. The quantities of ethylene produced on the various substrates varied, and the subtrate-ethylene prosuction pattern for P. cyclopium strains differed significantly from that of P. crustosum strains.
